The effects of lingual frenotomy on breastfeeding: an integrative review

Purpose: to investigate what effects lingual frenotomy has on breastfeeding. Methods: based the research question - “Is there a relationship between improvement in breastfeeding and frenotomy?” -, bibliographical survey was carried out three databases, using following descriptors: ankyloglossia, frenum, frenotomy. Frenotomy is free term. Original articles with babies up 6 months old who had difficulties due ankyloglossia been submitted were chosen. An instrument developed, containing information: name of authors, year publication, country origin, objective study, type sample, main results, conclusion. Literature Review: 243 screened, four met inclusion criteria for this study. It observed that, after frenotomy, some changes may take place patterns, such as an increase number suctions decrease time pause series suctions.
